NORTH (Original Song) – Camille and Kennerly, Harp Twins

        Veröffentlicht am 22.03.2017
A Harp Twins original song! We have been composing original harp duet music for many years,
but “North” is our first original composition to be released online!
We wrote both the music and the lyrics.

Many of you have requested that we post our original music, and that we create another video playing one harp – so here you go!
As a bonus, we both fully circle the harp twice during the song – playing the harp from every side.
We are incredibly excited to share this original song with all of you.

Please let us know if you enjoyed “North” by liking the video, favoriting, leaving a comment, and sharing it with your friends.
We look forward to releasing more original compositions! Subscribe and stay tuned!

Please listen with headphones or good speakers for best sound!

Lyrics (written by Camille and Kennerly):
Can you feel the wind of the north my dear?
For the chill means I am near.
Turn your face to the north my dear,
        The frost my frozen tears.
        Breathe in,
        The wind
        Of the north my dear.
For the day is dawning clear.

IRON MAIDEN - Run to the Hills (Harp Twins) Camille and Kennerly

          Veröffentlicht am 26.05.2017
Iron Maiden is one of our favorite bands and this is our 4th Iron Maiden harp duet cover.
However, this is our first Maiden cover on our acoustic Concert Grand harps!
We filmed this video while on tour in the western United States.

The land where we filmed was once inhabited by what is believed to be one of the oldest Native American tribes of the region: The Washoe.
Prior to European settlement, it is believed that the Washoe inhabited the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains for 6,000 years.
Reminiscent of “Run to the Hills” lyrics, the California Gold Rush brought massive numbers of European settlers to the west
and an end to the Washoe’s way of life. Resistance to the invasions on their land was futile and the last armed conflict
between the Washoe and European settlers was in 1857: The Potato War started when starving Washoe were killed
for gathering potatoes from a European-American farm in California.

Our own ancestors left Scandinavia (Norway), were pioneers, and settled in the Dakotas.
We also have a bit of Native American blood, as one of our ancestors was Cherokee Indian.
          As we finished filming our final shots for this video, we were awed when a group of wild horses came over the ridge of the hills behind us;
we felt like they were giving a blessing to our video. You can see a few clips of the wild horses in our music video.
With the grass gently blowing in the breeze and the setting sun painting the hills in vibrant colors, it is easy to envision
that those horses represent the spirit of the people who once inhabited those lands… beautiful and free.

Please listen with headphones or good speakers for best sound!

RIVER FLOWS IN YOU (Yiruma 이루마) Harp Twins - Camille and Kennerly

            Veröffentlicht am 06.07.2017
We know our rock and metal fans might be surprised to see a Yiruma cover, but our followers asked for it,
so here it is: “River Flows In You” (Yiruma 이루마).
This is our original 2-harp arrangement and we absolutely love how it turned out.
The song seems to lend itself well to the timbre of the harp. It might sound effortless, but our arrangement is deceptively challenging!
We wanted to pay homage to the beauty and fluidity of the original piece, yet give it our own Duet Harp Revolution spin.
Most arrangements leave out Yiruma’s beautiful interlude, but we just couldn’t! Don’t miss it at 2:04.
The original piece also has a gorgeous bittersweet and unresolved fade out at the end – which we made sure to include.
We hope that you enjoy and allow our interpretation to carry you away… somewhere down the river to a magical and peaceful oasis.

Please listen with headphones or good speakers for best sound!

BIG BANG THEORY Theme (Harp Twins) Camille and Kennerly

              Veröffentlicht am 10.08.2017
              It’s finally here!
An official music video for our arrangement of the Big Bang Theory Theme “The History of Everything” (Barenaked Ladies).
We have been fans of the TV show for many years, so we arranged the theme for our Harp Fantasy 2 album.
Goodness, this song was a challenge to arrange for and play on 2 harps!
Plus, we didn’t just play the portion used in the Big Bang Theory TV show opening… we played the whole song: solo included!
Be sure to watch until the end to hear us singing “Soft Kitty”.

We had been looking for the perfect music video filming location for about a year and we finally found it: Graham Crackers Comics in Wheaton, IL
(We think Wil Wheaton would approve of the town).
We were so excited when the owner of Graham’s gave us permission to film our video there.
While filming, we definitely felt like we were channeling Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz, and Raj Koothrappali in Stuart’s comic book shop.
We actually did some shopping at Graham Crackers Comics ourselves… there are just too many cool comics there!
And yes, we wore different outfits for the first time… we just couldn’t decide which outfit to wear, so we wore both!
And no, we didn’t cosplay Penny or Bernadette, but we do love the girls in the show,
especially Amy Farrah Fowler – we think she would give 2 harper thumbs up for this harp cover.
We hope you all enjoy! To our fellow nerds, please share this with your geek-proud friends!

DESPACITO (Harp Twins) Camille and Kennerly

Subscribe to our new Harp Twins Happenings YouTube channel for an upcoming behind-the-scenes video for Despacito and more!
                https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuvt...

We have gotten countless requests during our time on YouTube to post something especially for our Latin fans, so this one is for all of you!
                Despacito (Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee) is definitely a big departure from our usual fare, and we know that this song has been covered countless times;
however, we decided to arrange and post it because we knew we could bring something different and exciting to this song.
We have heard a lot of covers that utilize backtracks, but we didn’t want our harps to just be a karaoke voice-over.
Everything that you hear is what we can play live on just two harps – no backtracks or overlays needed!
Since we don’t have Latin American harps, we had to create techniques to give our arrangement a more Latin flair.
If you watch carefully, you will see that we dampen the strings almost continuously throughout the piece.
The dampening gives a percussive effect and allows each note to be heard clearly.
We even took this to the extreme starting at 0:59 where Camille dampens the strings a split second after playing them.
Also, Kennerly uses her nails to sharply and quickly strum the strings while simultaneous dampening the strings with the other hand,
which also creates a fun percussive effect. You can hear this starting at 0:47.
Some other things to watch/listen for are playing the strings close to the soundboard (which gives that section a more guitar-like feeling),
sharply broken chords, and even a pitch bend (at the beginning of the piece).
We hope you love our fun and unique arrangement as much as we do!
In the least, please give us a thumbs-up for wearing 6” heels while playing huge harps that are strapped to our bodies.
And we didn’t even sprain an ankle.

Filming this video was a challenge!
After filming for a few hours, we were almost done when a gust of wind blew over our tripod – breaking our tripod and video camera.
All of our video footage was lost. We went to a nearby electronics store, but the video cameras were too expensive
and the experts said they couldn’t retrieve our footage. We shed a few tears and then pulled ourselves together.
We asked our mom to walk around and film us with our iPhone – she had never filmed anything with an iPhone before.
                Thumbs up for mom!
We went back to the video location (the same day we had filmed and lost our footage) and filmed this video!
                We hope you enjoy!

METALLICA - Fade to Black (Harp Twins) Camille and Kennerly

                  Am 31.10.2017 veröffentlicht
Our new silver Electro-Acoustic Pedal Harps make their YouTube debut!
“Fade to Black" is our most requested song of all time, our 5th Metallica cover, and our longest Metallica cover to date!
We wanted to do justice to this amazing song – and not just the most well-known portions.
So, we arranged the whole song – some parts were definitely more harp-friendly to arrange than others,
but we love how it turned out! We think the harps give the song a beautiful, ethereal and haunting quality.
We also included some distortion since these harps can be electrified!

Our video camera broke while we were filing our last music video,
so this video was filmed by our mom entirely on our iPhone and edited by us.

NORSK JUL (Original Song) – Camille and Kennerly, Harp Twins

                    Am 16.11.2017 veröffentlicht
A Harp Twins original Holiday song – the 2nd track of our new Winter Lights album (links below)!
We wrote both the music and the lyrics of Norsk Jul. This original song pays homage to our Norwegian heritage.
We wanted the song to evoke an old-world feeling of winters past.

We considered filming the video inside an old Scandinavian cabin, but when we stepped into this old growth Norway Spruce forest,
we felt like we were transported to a mystical, timeless world.
The forest even has its own climate – it was noticeably colder inside the forest than outside and the air was slightly misty.
The sound that you hear in the video intro is the actual sound from the forest…
You can hear the evergreens whispering in the wind. We are incredibly excited to share this original song with all of you.

NORSK JUL Lyrics (written by Camille and Kennerly):
When snow has fallen, skies are gray, and darkness taken hold
The foxes hid, the ravens bid for spring to break (the cold)
But inside bright by firelight, the children whisper secrets
Of cakes and pies and spying eyes, of gnomes who might (bring toys)
I’m once again, lost in, the memory
Silver frost brings memories lost of Jultime long ago
I see the candles on the mantle, berries in (the snow)
The loving sweet memories of family round the tree
Because He came we’ll once again be together (in glory)
But look, there in the stars, they call me
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."

A Harp Twins original Holiday song – the 7th track of our new WINTER LIGHTS album (links below)!
We wrote both the music and the lyrics of NORDIC SOLSTICE.

This original song pays homage to our Scandinavian heritage.
We found out recently that some of our Norwegian ancestors lived north of the Arctic Circle in Norway.
The Winter Solstice has an important place in life, mythology and history – especially in northern parts of the world
when the days are dark and the nights are long.

The Scandinavian people of northern Europe celebrated the period of “midwinter”/winter solstice with the holiday, Jul/Yule,
from which many modern day Christmas traditions are descended.
We wanted the song to celebrate the rebirth of the sun after the longest night of the year.
Everything that you hear in the video is just our harps and our voices – exactly like we can perform it live with no overlays or backtracks.
It was 5 °F (-15 °C) when we filmed this video, so we guess we’re lucky our fingers didn’t get frostbitten!

We are incredibly excited to share this original song with all of you.

Solstice has come upon us, longest night, rebirth of light
Sol, sol, hear our song, hear our cries, this blackest night
Fear not for songs of old tell us that shadows will not hold
Break now the infinite snow, infinite darkness, infinite cold
Life now lies dormant and silent, asleep in the eternal darkest hours

A new Harp Twins original song! We filmed this music video while on our first UK tour.
We just couldn’t resist filming something at some of the amazing ruins there… and what better song to film than an original piece?!
It was so awe inspiring to film in ruins that are centuries old.

Everything that you hear in the video is just our harps, our voices, and a couple of foot stomps – exactly like we can perform it live with no overlays or backtracks.
We are incredibly excited to share this original song with all of you.
Please let us know if you enjoyed “Legend of the Shaders” by liking the video, favoriting, leaving a comment, and sharing it with your friends.

As classically trained harpists with degrees in Harp Performance from a Conservatory of Music, we have spent a LOT of time playing classical music.
We have a passion for rock and metal music, so that is what we most often play and post.

However, we thought we would share our arrangement of an immortal song by Norwegian classical composer, Edvard Grieg: “In the Hall of the Mountain King”.
Grieg is our favorite classical composer… and not just because our heritage is Norwegian.
We wanted to include a lot of the flavor of the original orchestral piece, while giving it our own spin.
So, we composed our own fun and haunting intro (with some added vocals) before going into the piece.
During our classical music days we did quite a lot of experimenting with different ways to partially dampen our strings to create a more pizzicato sound.
One method we especially loved was using putty to create a really cool pizzicato-like effect.
We decided to bring back this technique by using putty on the bass strings of C’s harp for the whole piece.

We also added a bit of rock toward the end of the piece by purposely buzzing some of the vibrating strings to get a grittier feel and mimic the percussion in the orchestra.
In the original orchestral piece, Grieg used various instruments in the orchestra to re-invent the theme in ever-changing ways.
We had to figure out how to achieve that effect by using just 2 harps (and do it in a way that we can actually perform live).
It was also a challenge to get the massive crescendo and increase in intensity that was originally achieved with an entire orchestra, but we think we managed it!
We hope you enjoy our eclectic arrangement!

We recorded this arrangement on our new electro-acoustic Concert Grand harps. However, we had to film on our electric lever harps
because those were the only harps we had with us on our recent UK tour.
Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we can perform it live with our 2 harps and voices: no backtracks, loops or overlays.
This is not the most “harp friendly” piece, but we absolutely love how it turned out and we love going where no harps have gone before!

Rainbow in the Dark has been on our “to arrange” list for years and we’re thrilled to finally release our cover of this metal classic!
We love the magical and ethereal feeling that the harps give to the song.
One of our favorite parts of our arrangement is our version of the solo.
While rehearsing, Kennerly kept playing the main guitar riff while Camille improvised over it.
We think we gave a nod to Campbell’s original solo while creating our own distinct Harp Twins flair.
Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we can perform it live with our 2 harps: no backtracks, loops or overlays.

It’s been a long time since we posted a Beatles cover, and Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) seemed like a perfect start to our summer video line-up.
We chose several beautiful and serene nature settings for our video locations and were thrilled that the birds were singing along with our music – very apropos
as the original song is subtitled: “This Bird Has Flown”.
We especially loved seeing the bluebirds flying around and were able to capture a pair flying by in one of our shots.
See if you can spot them in our video (they were flying so fast that we had to slow that video clip down to 25%).

Although not simple, we wanted our arrangement to sound effortless, while giving it the feeling of a dance.
Interestingly, Norwegian Wood was originally written in 12/8, which can have a feeling of 3/4 – the most common time signature of the waltz.
Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps: no backing tracks, loops or overlays.
