A Harp Twins original Summer Solstice song! “Beneath the Midnight Sun” is one of the first songs that we wrote, so it’s very special to us.
We released our original Winter Solstice song, “Nordic Solstice” this past winter (https://youtu.be/m1o0RDWbEz4)
and now we have finally recorded and filmed a video for “Beneath the Midnight Sun”!

Our contrasting pair of songs were inspired by the extremes of solstices in the north.
While “Nordic Solstice” is defiant, proud and resilient, “Beneath the Midnight Sun” is serene, ethereal, and peaceful… a lullaby!
Lullabies are magical. Peace in itself has a feeling of power. When writing this song, we wanted to create that childlike feeling of being completely safe.

In our song, not even the shadows can touch the listener. Like our other original pieces, this song pays homage to our Scandinavian heritage.
Some of our Norwegian ancestors lived north of the Arctic Circle in Norway.

The solstices have an important place in life, mythology and history – especially in northern parts of the world.
For thousands of years Scandinavians have celebrated “midsummer”/summer solstice. “Beneath the Midnight Sun” is our song celebrating the sun and life!
Everything that you hear in the video is just our harps and our voices – exactly like we can perform it live with no overlays or backing tracks.
We are incredibly excited to share this original song with all of you.

Please let us know if you enjoyed “Beneath the Midnight Sun” by liking the video, favoriting, leaving a comment, and sharing it with your friends.
We look forward to releasing more of our original compositions! Please subscribe and stay tuned!

We arranged “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers at the special request of our friends Jenny and Casper Van Dien for their Dollywood wedding!
We absolutely loved how our arrangement turned out and wanted to share it with all of you.
It was a bit of challenge to keep the driving and fun nature of the song while using harps, but we thought our new chrome electro-acoustic harps were up for the challenge.
A huge THANK YOU to the amazing fans who contributed to our campaign for these incredible harps!
Of course, we HAD to wear the Proclaimer-style glasses. We couldn’t stop smiling while filming this video and we hope it makes you smile, too.

With the exception of the tambourine, everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps:no backing tracks, loops or overlays.

THE SOUND OF SILENCE (Harp Twins) Camille and Kennerly

        Am 31.08.2018 veröffentlicht
        ...
The Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel) has long been a very powerful and emotional song for us.
We also loved the Disturbed version when we first heard it a few years ago.
However, we based our complex and challenging arrangement on the original song that Paul Simon wrote in the 60s.

Our biggest challenge was creating variety in the verses so that the listener could “hear” the lyrics, even though this is an instrumental harp duet version.
We also wanted to create the “build” in the music that makes the song so emotional.

This video has several “firsts” for us: first nighttime video, and first fully black and white video!
We have been hesitant to release a video in fully black and white because we don’t like making artistic choices arbitrarily.
To us, black and white emphasizes emotion, contrast, and evokes as sense of timelessness.
Although the original song was written over 50 years ago, the message still remains the same.

This video was filmed by our mom on our phone.
Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps: no backing tracks, loops, or harp overlays.
Please let us know if you enjoyed “The Sound of Silence” by liking the video, favoriting, leaving a comment, and sharing it with your friends.

We love “The Dragonborn Comes” from The Elder Scrolls by Jeremy Soule and have wanted to cover it for a long time.
However, we wanted our interpretation to be unique and different.
So, we arranged a sort of mash-up medley of “The Dragonborn Comes”, the Oblivion theme, and even a bit of the Skyrim theme.

It was so fun to bridge the gap between the folk quality of “The Dragonborn Comes” with the powerful orchestral theme from Oblivion.
The cherry on top was finding an incredible old growth Cedar forest for our video location.
We have seen old growth forests before, but never a cedar grove.

Some of the trees are believed to be over 2,000 years old… Imagine the stories these trees could tell.
Being there truly felt like stepping into a magical world where elves and dragons exist.
We hope you enjoy our interpretation of “The Dragonborn Comes” – filmed among these ancient giants.
Fun fact: The Viking horn audio at the beginning was our mom blowing our horn in the cedar forest!

Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps:
no backing tracks, loops, or harp overlays.

We love Black Sabbath and “Paranoid” seemed like the perfect cover for this time of year!
We had a blast figuring out how to cover this iconic classic metal song on just two harps (we love a challenge!).
There were a few parts that were rather static sounding on harp, so we wrote and added some of our own melodic lines.
We especially love how our arrangement of the guitar solo turned out.
We split the screen for that part so you all could see a close-up of our fingers for that whole section!
You may notice that we edited this video in a different style than most of our videos.
We utilized quick cuts, fast and slow motion shots, and interesting angles to give it an unnerving or uneasy feeling… a “paranoid” vibe!
So rock out with our work/school safe velvet metal this month and beyond.

Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps: no backing tracks, loops, or harp overlays.

We asked our Patreon supporters to vote for the song on our Winter Lights album
that they most wanted to see a music video for (other than our 2 original songs, which already have music videos),
and “Carol of the Harps” won the vote!

We re-arranged “Carol of the Harps” especially for our new Holiday/Christmas album, Winter Lights!
We wanted to give it a bit of a mysterious and haunting vibe and we absolutely loved how our arrangement turned out.
We also wanted to spice up our arrangement and make it a bit more complex, so there are quite a few different sections and intertwined melodies.
We especially love the section starting at about 2:20 in the music video because we arranged it in a way where it starts with a single “bell” line
and then we keep adding layers of notes to create different sounds.

Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps:
no backing tracks, loops, or extra harp tracks.
We wanted the listener to feel like they were standing in an old city street and could hear bell towers and chimes from cathedrals all over the city.
We spent a lot of time thinking what the perfect location for our arrangement would be,
and we were so thrilled to have the opportunity to film again at the magnificent Sanfilippo Estate “Place de la Musique” in Illinois.
We felt like Christmas dolls in a magical dollhouse.

This is our 7th music video filmed there!

This Christmas / Jul season, we hope you enjoy an original story that we wrote and set to our original music!
Our story is about a mysterious and possibly mischievous mythical Norwegian Nisse.
We thought it would be fitting to release this story on Santa Lucia Day, which is the start of the Christmas season in Scandinavia.
Like our other original works, this story and music pay homage to our Scandinavian heritage.

This is our arrangement of classic winter song “In the Bleak Midwinter” with lyrics by poet Christina Rossetti and set to music
in 1906 by classical composer Gustav Holst – the 6th track of our WINTER LIGHTS album (links below)!
We had been waiting for weeks for the perfect day to film when we heard that a snowstorm was coming.
While everyone else was snuggling up for a day inside, we were getting the harps packed up and ready.
The snow was coming down even harder than it looks in the video.
We had to keep wiping the snow off of the harps, but don’t worry, no harps were harmed in the making of this video.

                    In the bleak midwinter
                    Frosty winds made moan
                    Earth stood hard as iron
                    Water like a stone
                    Snow had fallen
                    Snow on snow
                    Snow on snow
                    In the bleak midwinter

A Harp Twins original Nordic Elven-song! “Light Elves (Ljósálfar)” is one of the first songs that we wrote, so it is very special to us.
When most people hear “elves” they think of Lord of the Rings. However, Tolkien actually borrowed from Nordic mythology for his interpretation of the elves in Middle Earth.
Light Elves (Ljósálfar) in Norse literature are often described as beautiful, luminous creatures with pale skin and hair.

They had unknown magical powers and were considered gods or demi-gods. We wanted to create a mythical and dream-like tale with our own spin on the concept of Light Elves.
We wondered what part music and song might have had in their realm and how that music and the legend of these creatures might have trickled to the realm of humans.
Our original song is our own imaginative story and we hope it brings you to an ethereal and serene place with waterfalls and Elven-calls.

“Closer to the Heart” is our very first Rush cover!

We wanted to do justice to this iconic classic, so we arranged the whole song (including the solo) and we absolutely love how it turned out!
We think the harps give the song a beautiful and ethereal quality, and we think that our new polyphonic guitar effects pedal adds to the celestial resonance.
We also wanted to keep the driving beat of the song, which created some fun syncopation between the 2 harps.
We recorded this track on our electro-acoustic Concert Grand harps, but filmed on our acoustic Concert Grands
since they were what we had with us on this particular performance trip.
We love the timeless and important message of this song and we hope that our interpretation will encourage others to “mold a new reality, closer to the heart”.
Oh, and that cool sound that you hear at the opening screen is the wind playing the harps on location!
                        Pretty magical, we think!

This video was filmed by our mom on our phone.
Everything you hear in our arrangement is exactly how we perform it live with our 2 harps: no backing tracks, loops, or harp overlays.

We’ve covered a lot of complex guitar solos in our rock and metal covers,
but arranging and playing “Always With Me, Always With You” (Joe Satriani), was on another level!

We had to work like devils to play this song like angels.
Figuring out how to arrange and play all of the guitar riffs and solos was quite the challenge,
but in the end, we think our arrangement makes it sound like it was written with our harps in mind!
We feel the harps give the song a magical and ethereal quality.

We recorded this track on our electro-acoustic Concert Grand harps, but filmed on our electric lever harps
since we couldn’t access this gorgeous location with our larger harps.
We hope you enjoy our interpretation of this timeless instrumental rock classic!

It has been too long since we have covered an Anime song, and we thought that spring
was the perfect season for this lively and fantastical theme from Fairy Tail!
We love the Celtic symphonic rock/metal vibe of the original song.

IN THE GARDEN (harps and vocals) - Harp Twins, Camille and Kennerly

“In the Garden” is very meaningful to us and our arrangement is dedicated to our grandma,
who spent countless hours spring through autumn working in her own garden.
This hymn is one of our favorites and, to us, tells the story of when a believer passes away, and into the arms of Jesus.

In this moment between earth and eternity, time stands still, and a beautiful day is spent walking and talking
with Jesus in a perfect garden full of pure love and light.
We have been incredibly close to our grandma our entire lives – seeing her or speaking over the phone almost every single day of our lives.
Our hearts broke when she passed away in March.
The two of us and our mom had the blessing of being there with grandma as she slipped from this world and into eternity – holding her hands,
telling her how much we loved her, and singing “Blessed Assurance” to her.
Our grandma was always the very biggest fan of our music and we played our harps for her countless times,
always playing her our newest songs and arrangements before recording them and showing them to the world.
Grandma knew us until the end and every day as she grew a little weaker she was still able to hear us talk
to her and when we said “we love you grandma” she would respond, or mouth the words “I love you too”.
We miss you more than words can express, grandma.
We will love you forever grandma and we’ll miss you every day until we’re reunited in Glory.

                                A Harp Twins original song!
“Death Waltz” is one of our favorite original songs to date
and we knew it would be the perfect music video to release near Halloween this year!
We wrote “Death Waltz” this past January while Kennerly was incredibly sick from a nasty bug
she and mom caught during our concert performance trip to Las Vegas over the New Year.
But we had a deadline we made for ourselves to finish our Iceborn all-original album,
so Kennerly continued to work with Camille on this song.
So we guess that the result of writing an original song while Kennerly was feeling deathly ill was “Death Waltz”.
We hope that the eerie macabre feeling will be the perfect addition to your Halloween season, and beyond!
