Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Old School System Review

Advanced Dungeons and Dragons came out in 1978,
building on the world-wide success of Dungeons & Dragons released shortly before that.
You might consider this 1E of D&D, though perhaps 1.5E is more accurate.
Whatever you call it it contains within it's pages the foundations for the game we play today.

Much of the framework is very similar between this and modern systems:
you have the six attributes, fantasy races, classes, hit points armor class, levels, monsters, dungeons and so on.

However some of the smaller details are very different:
playing a female character is actually a penalty, armor class goes down and to hit goes up, weapons have speed and a length in inches,
minimum attribute requirements for classes and a few other details that just might make you wonder how they ever played with such wacky rules.

Whatever your ideas about the system it remains our tabletop gaming heritage and in this review we cover the major differences between this and today's D&D.
Were you an original player, playing this when it came out? Is this the first you've ever heard of these rules?
Your contributive thoughts are welcomed in the Comments below.

Remembering 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons| Editions of Dungeons and Dragons

Time to stroll down another tabletop RPG memory lane with another edition of dungeons and dragons.
I only briefly played 1st edition D&D, but 2nd AD&D is where I really learned about RPGs.
The group I've gamed with for going on two decades. Played 2e AD&D and 3.5 D&D more than any other version or edition of dungeons and dragons.
Though we skipped most of the skills and options part advanced dungeons and dragons.

4th Edition D&D The Birth of Pathfinder| Editions of Dungeons and Dragons

4E really introduced some cool things to D&D that I greatly enjoyed. It also created WOTC strongest competitor Paizo and their Pathfinder game.
4th was a great edition of dungeons and dragons for bring new players in, but pushing older players away from the Wizard of the Coast RPGs.
It is the most divisive of all the editions of Dungeons & Dragons. Our gaming group played it 4.0 for 18 months to 2 years before moving onto different rpg systems.
A lot of the great elements of 4e have found their way into 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. Heck some of the changes in 4th were even incorporated into Pathfinder.
