WCS 2016 Signature Series: ByuN (Terran)

    Veröffentlicht am 21.10.2016
“ByuN” Hyun Woo, formerly known as “GhostKing“, is a Terran player from South Korea.

Early in his pro gaming career, ByuN had relative success participating in GSTL and various tournaments from 2011 – 2012,
but with the release of Heart of the Swarm, ByuN struggled in his tournament play.
Eventually, near the end of 2013, he stopped participating in major tournaments, and it was assumed he had retired from the pro gaming scene.

Though, in 2015 he began participating in various smaller tournaments eventually earning himself a name as one of the strongest players of the LotV Beta.
His success continued to grow and that December he qualified for Season 1 of SSL 2016,
marking his first appearance at a premiere tournament in over two years, and all without a team.

Later in 2016 he qualified and participated in GSL Season 2 and eventually took the first place prize becoming the first player to win a championship
without a team as well as securing his place in the 2016 WCS Global Playoffs at BlizzCon.

WCS 2016 Signature Series: ShoWTimE (Protoss)

    Veröffentlicht am 22.10.2016
Tobias ‘ShoWTimE’ Sieber is a professional Protoss player.

Since the release of “Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty” in 2010, ShoWTimE has been playing the game consistently
but only turned professional shortly after finishing high school in June 2012.

ShoWTimE appears to feel the most comfortable in straight macro games and tries to gain advantages
by out-macroing his opponent, although he is also able to show well-executed all-ins.
His impressive play earned him a decent amount of success in a handful of major tournaments in 2015.

ShoWTimE’s success was not unrecognized and thus he was finally picked up by a team again.
He joined Millenium on 11 December 2015. Six days later, he made his debut for Millenium by participating in the HomeStory Cup XII.
He was able to reach the quarter-finals, where he lost to FireCake 0-3.

In 2016 his tournament success continued as he consistently placed highly in major WCS tournaments,
though, his shining moment was becoming The WCS Circuit Spring Champion.
He played against Nerchio in a back and forth seven game series and eventually came out on top
securing his place at the 2016 WCS Global Playoffs at BlizzCon.

    StarCraft
WCS 2016 Signature Series: TRUE (Zerg)

    Veröffentlicht am 23.10.2016
Bang “TRUE” Tae Soo is a StarCraft II pro gamer from South Korea playing Zerg.

TRUE has had a fairly active career playing StarCraft II since Wings of Liberty in 2012 and Heart of the Swarm in 2013 till Legacy of the Void.

In late 2014, TRUE tried to qualify for the SSL Season 1. During the qualifications he was able to beat Trust and INnoVation but lost to MyuNgSik.
He eventually qualified for the Wildcard bracket where he beat HyuN in the Round of 16, but lost to Curious shortly after that, dropping out of the qualifier.

Only about a month later, TRUE attended Gfinity Spring Masters II- this time qualifying by beating MaNa, PtitDrogo, and Zanster
and was placed into a group with Jaedong, ShoWTimE, and HyuN. He won the first match against HyuN 2-0, lost his second match against Jaedong 1-2,
before meeting HyuN again, once again winning 2-0, to move on to the Round of 8.
There he met against Bunny, who he crushed 3-0, through early aggression and incredibly strong plays, later on, to finish the Liquid Terran off.
Moving on, he faced the eventual winner Solar, barely losing 2-3.

TRUE continued 2015 with a streak of great tournament results in DreamHack,
he recorded a 2nd-place finish at DreamHack Open Valencia only falling 0-3 to Curious in the finals.

In 2016 TRUE made the decision to move to to the US and participate in the WCS Circuit.
Although, due to visa issues TRUE missed two season of the 2016 WCS Circuit,
but in June he received his documents in June and was officially allowed to participate in the 2016 WCS Circuit Summer Championship.

Moving regions meant TRUE was starting off the year without any WCS points and a very slim chance of making it to the WCS Global Finals,
so the WCS Circuit Summer Championship was his only hope. During the tournament, TRUE reached the Semi Finals without giving up a single map to his competition
until he faced his first Terran opponent, HeRoMaRinE. HeRoMaRinE was only able to win one map against TRUE and he ultimately moved onto the Finals
where he defeated Polt winning his way to the WCS Global Finals.

WCS 2016 Signature Series: Zest (Protoss)

    Veröffentlicht am 24.10.2016
Joo “Zest” Sung Wook is a Korean Protoss player who started his pro gaming career in the 2011 Proleague Season 2.

Since then Zest has consistently placed well in tournaments such as 2014 GSL Code S Season 1, GSL Global Tournament 2014,
IEM Toronto, 2014 KeSPA Cup, and IEM World Championship 2015.
Though even with all of his success he had suffered severe losses in what some considered a ‘slump’ early in 2015 when he failed to qualify for GSL Season 1.
Zest’s ‘slump’ was short lived as he managed to place 1st at IEM Season IX – World Championship winning a Best of 7 series against Trap.

More recently in 2016 Zest dominated over his competition in the GSL Season 1 matches only losing one game to the Terran player, Journey.
His impressive Protoss play utilizing mobility and consistently harassing or being ready to attack his opponents
has been a major part of his success – as well as a thrill to watch.
Eventually, his impressive play earned him the champion title for GSL Season 1 as well as securing his spot in the 2016 WCS Global Playoffs at BlizzCon.

WCS 2016 Signature Series: Solar (Zerg)

    Veröffentlicht am 25.10.2016
Kang ‘Solar’ Min Soo is a StarCraft II Zerg pro gamer from South Korea.

Since the beginnings of the Beta of Legacy of the Void, Solar showed top-level performances in online tournaments,
winning 6 Leifeng Cups and 3 Lycan League Weekly events, and taking a win at the SHOUTcraft Invitational II dropping only 2 games in his victorious run.

In the first Premier Tournament of the Legacy of the Void era, the DreamHack: ROCCAT LotV Championship,
Solar came as one of the favorites to claim the final victory.
Solar started out strong, after stomping the Group Stage with a perfect 5-0 matches count, not dropping a single map (10-0).
Eventually, it came down to an intense nail-biting 7 games finals, with him being down 1-3,
but Solar managed to come back and win the tournament 4-3 claiming the $20,000 prize.

More recently in 2016 Solar performed decently in both GSL seasons but his most impressive placements
and plays came out of each SpoTV StarLeague seasons – placing 3rd in Season 1 and then taking the 1st place trophy
in Season 2 solidifying his place at the 2016 WCS Global Playoffs at BlizzCon.

WCS 2016 Signature Series: Dark (Zerg)

    Veröffentlicht am 26.10.2016
Park “Dark” Ryung Woo is a South Korean StarCraft II Zerg player.

Starting in 2012 Dark showed a lot of promise by coming onto the scene making repeat appearances in the GSL Preliminaries
in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals but was not able to advance into Code A until Season 5.
It wasn’t until 2014 that Dark was finally able to rise into Code S by taking down Rogue but was knocked out of Ro32 after being defeated by Dear.

More recently in 2016 Dark managed to place 9th-12th in the GSL Season 1 and impressively placed 1st with SpoTV StarLeague Season 1
in a six-game series against Stats, earning himself a guaranteed placement at the 2016 WCS Global Playoffs at BlizzCon.
Dark has often coveted himself as one of the best StarCraft II players in the world and aims to prove it at BlizzCon 2016.

    StarCraft ll: WCS Explained

    Veröffentlicht am 27.10.2016
Here is the run-down of how the StarCraft ll World Championship Series works!
WCS is a year-long event in which the best players around the world compete and show off their skills in StarCraft ll.

During the year, players collect WCS points which represent their regional standings.
16 of the highest ranked players will compete at the WCS Global Playoffs towards the end of the year.
This leads to the WCS Global Finals held at BlizzCon where a player will be crowned the world champion!

There are 2 regions in which players compete and accumulate their WCS points: WCS Korea and WCS Circuit.

WCS Korea features the world's finest StarCraft players and represents the highest level of competition.
Players compete in 2 renowned leagues: The Global StarCraft ll League (GSL) and the StarCraft ll StarLeague (SSL).

Season 1 and Season 2 champions of GSL and StarLeague and the additional 4 players from the WCS Korea standings,
will represent Korea at the WCS Global Playoffs.

WCS Circuit differs from its Korean counterpart as players travel to compete in a variety of weekend tournaments hosted across the globe.
Similar to Korea, 2 champions of the year with an additional 6 players from the WCS Circuit standings are chosen to compete against WCS Korea.

Together, both regions combine to form the largest StarCraft tournament of the year held at BlizzCon in Anaheim, Ca.
This is where players look to claim the title of the 2016 World Champion.

WCS Global Playoffs: Group A Introduction

    Veröffentlicht am 27.10.2016
After a year of intense WCS competition, the standings are true and the top 16 players –seven major tournament winners
plus nine based on WCS points—are now set to battle in the Global Playoffs.
The eight players who make it through the double-elimination group stage will advance to the Global Finals at BlizzCon.

Here are the players who will be competing in Group A:

-Dark- is considered the best Zerg in the world, he is also the number 1 ranked player from the Korean region.
He had an incredibly strong year with a championship in season 1 of SSL and a second place finish in season 2.
He is one of the strongest contenders in this tournament.

-PtitDrogo- enters the tournament in place of Polt after his unexpected departure.
Despite entering an incredibly difficult group, a fantastic opportunity now presents itself to a player who so desperately wanted to qualify.

    - Stats- One of the few players in this tournament who hasn't won a premier championship before.
2016 has been a year when Stats has come very close to accomplishing that with two top four finishes in SSL season 1 and 2.

-Snute- Norway and Europe's finest Zerg has been a dominant force within the 2016 WCS Circuit.
In Team Liquid's reached 6 semi-finals including a victory in Mexico City this year. A true competitor and a strong contender.

WCS Global Playoffs: Group B Introduction

Here are the players who will be competing in Group B:

-Zest- A multiple StarCraft champion who has seen the highest of highs, played at the toughest tournaments, and winning 5 championships.
Zest enters his group as a large favorite to advance.

-True- After joining the WCS Circuit so late, TRUE's performance at Dreamhack Montreal was nothing but spectacular.
Playing with a unique style, he played and won his first tournament gaining automatic qualification to the Global Finals.

-Patience- Making his first appearance at the Global Finals, Patience is the unlikely contender in Group B.
However, he is a player that many underestimate and a player that can always surprise.

-Neeblet- History was made during October in Korea for KeSPA Cup, the first non-Korean in 16 years to win a Korean tournament on Korean soil.
It's been a long time since so many eyes were on a single player.
