The Artificer Shouldn't be a Class

In this video I review the newest Unearthed Arcana, this time featuring a full class, the Artificer.
It is an item use and creation class without really any ability to make items,
and two specializations that suffer from a jarring disjointedness between the name and flavor of abilities and the mechanics.

Worst of all, nearly the entirely of the abilities of the class could be all but identically recreated by any other class with a bit of gold to their name.
The concept of item creation is great, but should be approached and fully fleshed out with crafting guidelines
that any character can utilize, not a single class. Scrap the Artificer and build something else with the pieces

Straight Outta Eberron the Artificer- The D&D Magic Item Master| Unearthed Arcana Review

    Unearthed Arcana: Artificer- http://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/dow...

3.5 edition of Dungeons and Dragons has given us the world of Eberron.
From Eberron we have gotten all kinds of cool player character options- artificer, changeling, shifter, warforged,
dragon mark tattoos, and an arcana punk campaign setting.
Wizards of the Coast in their latest Unearthed Arcana has revised the artificer character class with 5e D&D.
Unearthed Arcana had previously done a wizard tradition based off of the earlier edition dungeons & dragons class,
but it was quite lacking in the flavor of the previous character class.

(5E D&D) Artificer Alchemist vs. Arcane Distiller Alchemist

      Veröffentlicht am 17.01.2017
In this video we compare and contrast a level 10 Artificer Alchemist from the recently released Artificer UA,
with the Arcane Distiller Alchemist, recently released in DawnforgedCast's 5E Alchemist document.
We utilize the same basic character, a gnome named Nikoros, as the baseline but build him in different directions
based on the skills and abilities of the class. The discussion goes back and forth in explanation and then favor of one side or the other,
but it is up to you to decide which of these potion slingers will be the best fit for you and your group!

An artificer creates. They figure out what makes the world tick, and then they figure out how to make it tick for them.
Whether creating simple mechanisms or complex clockwork contraptions, an artificer finds joy in making the most out of the basic laws of nature.

The artificer’s main strengths are their insatiable curiosity and drive to discover not only how things work, but how to make them work even better.
This, combined with their formidable intelligence and willingness to persevere in the face of frequent failure, has led them to develop miraculous creations.
With their arquebus, clockwork, jimmy-rigs, and vast array of technical skills, there are few problems they can’t solve.

In this document you will find everything you need to play an Artificer character in 5th Edition.

        Happy gaming!

In a previous installment of Unearthed Arcana, we presented a new character class: the artificer, a master of magical invention.
Based on the feedback we received, we now offer a new look at this class.
We invite you to give this new version of the artificer a read, try it out in play, and let us know what you think.
Later this month, a survey will appear on the D&D website. Please let us know in that survey what you think of today’s Unearthed Arcana.

          A Note on UA Scheduling
We typically look to release Unearthed Arcana once a month.
The series remains a valuable opportunity for us to publish playtest content and gather your feedback.
That said, we want to release Unearthed Arcana content only when it is ready for you to try.
Moving forward, this content will release on a more flexible schedule, roughly once a month and on whatever day works best that month.
We’ll let you know when the next UA installment is ready! (There’s a good chance it will contain more content for the artificer.)

          This Is Playtest Content
The material in Unearthed Arcana is presented for playtesting and to spark your imagination.
These game mechanics are in draft form, usable in your D&D campaign but not refined by final game design.
They are not officially part of the game. For these reasons, material in this column is not legal in D&D Adventurers League events.
