Enttäuschendes Spiel trotz toller Open World - Assassin's Creed Valhalla im Test / Review

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Review: More Meat, Less Fat

In this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Review we’ll be telling you what we think
about the latest installment of the Ubisoft franchise that has spanned over a decade.
Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla better than Odyssey? Does it return to Assassin’s Creed’s roots?
What changes have they made to the formula?
In this review, we’ll answer all these questions and more.

Valhalla is set, for the most part, in 9th century Britain.
A period of time where England did not yet exist, and there were several ruling kings of the island,
that was under constant threat from Viking invasions via Denmark and Norway.

The gameplay of Valhalla can be separated into two parts: Exploration and Combat & Customization
so let’s cover that first before we dive in and see how things shake out with the combat, and how you can customize Eivor.

The Exploration of Valhalla will be familiar to anyone who has played either Origins or Odyssey,
as much of the formula remains the same. Go to some marker on the map, explore the area there,
and seek out and find valuable treasure or do some sort of side “activity”.
There are also syncronization points, just like before, that reveal areas of the map and that can be fast traveled to.

The combat of Valhalla is mostly similar to Odyssey, and Origins and if you’ve played these games then you’ll feel at home.
There are minor changes with some things, like key bindings etc, but these should be picked up rather quickly.
And as I mentioned before, there is a heavier focus on outright combat than there has been in previous titles.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has shown me that Ubisoft is capable of making a third person action RPG
that I will consistently buy on day 1 every time they make a new one, and that they listen to player feedback
by cutting out a lot of the things from Odyssey that padded game hours but wasn’t particularly fun.
And while I can’t say with 100% certainty that if you liked Odyssey
you will like Valhalla (mostly due to the lack of stealth elements),
I think it’s much more likely that you will than you won’t.
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."
          Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799)

            6:27 - Final Tips

Skill Trees are now displayed in complex constellations that unlock both passive and active skills for your character.
There are three main branches, and your chosen branch will give bonuses to your weapons and armor as well.
Raven Skills (yellow) focus on Stealth and Assassination, Bear Skills (red) provide bonuses to melee combat
and head-on confrontations and Wolf Skills (blue) give perks to mainly ranged combat.

Unlike the previous games, your abilities are now independent from your skill tree,
and you have to find them on the landscape.
We have put together a list of Ability Locations for AC: Valhalla that you can use,
these list all the Books of Knowledge in the game.
Books of Knowledge are the item that teaches you an ability – and finding
a second copy of the same ability will increase its rank.

Equipment is significantly different from the other games, mainly in that none of it is random
so everything can be found at a specific location. Additionally, there is a lot less of it,
so for your first 20 hours you will be looking at about 3 armor sets and maybe 20 weapons.
To offset the lower number of individual items, you have the option to both upgrade
and enhance the quality of your weapons, as well as slot runes into them.
We cover all of this on a dedicated page on the wiki, so you can find details there.

Like weapons, Armor is linked to a specific Skill Tree.
There are armor sets in the game that give bonuses for equipping all pieces,
and you get further bonuses for taking “Way of the Raven“, “Way of the Bear” or “Way of the Wolf” skills on each tree.
So if you plan on going for heavy armor, you should go into the red tree
and find instances of “Way of the Bear” to put points into as it will maximize your stats.

Your progression through AC: Valhalla will be slightly different than you may have done in previous games.
I would suggest following the main story until you get to the point you can unlock your Settlement
before doing too many side activities, mainly because you’ll want to be able to benefit from the many services available there.
Additionally, I found that if I visited places too early, NPCs that were needed to complete the wealth objective
of the area where not there, meaning I had to come back to the location a second time.

We have a full settlement guide that can be found on the wiki, so the tips here will be a lot more concise.
First, the settlement is unlocked after you travel to England and complete the quest called “Settling Down”.
Once you do this, your first order of business will be to build the Blacksmith by gathering materials,
which you get from Raids. Once Gunnar is set up, your Settlement will begin giving you options
to construct Service Buildings, Cosmetic Buildings and Feast Buff Buildings.
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."
            Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799)

              - Melee Skill Tree

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has three skill trees that expand by providing both active and passive benefits to the player.
The skills are Yellow (Raven Clan), Red (Bear Clan) and Blue (Wolf Clan).
See Abilities for special moves that you can unlock for your character.
Global Power: Active skill nodes will also increase your overall power.
This will increase your base Stats and so your ability to survive in the world.

Players gain Skill Points by gaining Experience, which is done by completing quests,
exploring Locations, undergoing Raids, Completing World Events, defeating Enemies and Bosses.

How much Experience you gain is thought to be based on your current "level",
and the difficulty of the enemy defeated.
For more information on this please see the Skill Points & Experience page.

You can reallocate your skillpoints at anytime without any cost, from the Skills menu.
