The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A: Darth Bane

    Veröffentlicht am 13.11.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni discusses creating Darth Bane, from the Star Wars icon who voiced the character to his sinister design.

Darth Bane -- the ancient Sith who established the Rule of Two -- made his debut in The Lost Missions episode "Sacrifice,"
appearing as a spectre to Jedi Master Yoda.

As Lucasfilm's Leland Chee points out in the Q&A, it was the legendary Mark Hamill that brought the villain to life.
Filoni explains that Hamill had wanted to be in the show earlier, but Filoni wanted a role that was worthy of the actor.
"I thought, well, what a great, bizarre reflection to have Mark play the ultimate side of good and light, and then the father of old, ancient evil."

Hamill delivered two performances, layered on top of each other, giving Bane's voice an unearthly, disturbing sound.

As seen in the video's concept art, Bane's look was based on samurai and ancient Chinese armor,
augmented with futuristic, Ralph McQuarrie-style touches.
To add to his menacing presence, Filoni had flame, smoke, and embers added to his character model.

The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A: Rogue Yoda

      Veröffentlicht am 21.11.2014

In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni, Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), and Tom Kane (Yoda) discuss the leader of the Jedi Council going rogue in “Voices.”

In “Voices,” Yoda seeks Anakin’s help when he needs to disobey the Council – escaping Coruscant for a private mission.
“It’s so great and fitting that it’s Anakin helping Yoda,” Lanter says. Filoni agrees, and says that Yoda identifies with Anakin.
“When he was only a hundred or so, I picture that he was a lot like Anakin,” he says.

This arc reinforces an idea introduced in Attack of the Clones – that something the Jedi are doing is wrong – and Yoda is coming to a deeper understanding what that is.
“They think they’re entitled to this power, and unfortunately, they’re all going to pay the price for it,” Filoni says.

The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A: Force Priestesses

      Veröffentlicht am 26.11.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni, Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), and Tom Kane (Yoda)
discuss the Force Priestesses in “Destiny” and “Sacrifice.”

Yoda encounters the mystical Force Priestesses – Confusion, Anger, Sadness, Joy, and Serenity -- while on a journey of discovery for secrets of the Force.
The Priestesses were all voiced by one actress: Jaime King. “Jaime had a great time,” Filoni says. “She’s someone that could take on that challenge.”
He also reveals that the Force Priestesses were actually one being.
“It’s one ancient being separated over time, that for our perception to be able to see her, she is these many different iconic things presented to us.”
Her ability to manifest herself through the Force leads to Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan,
and Yoda learning how to maintain their consciousness after death – a concept that came directly from George Lucas.

While recording, King would both stick with one voice and occasionally jump between characters.
As seen in the concept art in the video, each Priestess wore a mask reflecting her name/personification.
“A lot of that design sense…it’s unsettling,” Filoni says.
“So you’re not sure, when Yoda’s talking to her, is she good? Is she evil? We’re thinking in those terms, and that being is not existing in those terms, really.”
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."

Force Ghosts: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

        Veröffentlicht am 04.12.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni discusses the concept of Force Ghosts.

Yoda's story arc in The Lost Missions explores the idea of Force immortality, establishing that Qui-Gon taught Yoda how to become a Force ghost,
and Yoda taught Obi-Wan. One fan asks Dave Filoni, who would have taught Darth Vader?

"That's a big question I had for George [Lucas]," Filoni says. "And I have an answer. But I'm not going to give it to you."
Filoni points out however, that it does have to do with a change Lucas made in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi,
which sees Anakin reverting to his young self in death.

"It doesn't make sense mythologically for him to maintain the guise of the old man afterward in the Force,
because he was never good...when he was that person."

Lucasfilm's Leland Chee points out, however, that Yoda talks to Anakin about these mysterious events -- almost as if he's planting the seed of Force immortality in his mind.
"Yes, Leland," Filoni jokes. "Darn, you've figured it out."
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."

Evil Yoda: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

          Veröffentlicht am 05.12.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni and voice actor Tom Kane discuss creating Yoda’s dark side spectre.

On a journey of self discovery, Yoda travels to the mysterious Force planet in the Lost Missions episode,
“Destiny.” He encounters Force priestesses, who put him through numerous trials, including a confrontation with a dark side version of himself.

Filoni recounts the recording session with Kane: “I said, ‘I need you to play Evil Yoda.
I tried to describe him as this young, corrupt, gollumy, gremlin kind of thing.”
The character’s visuals, including leeching smoke, fell to visual effects supervisor Joel Aron, who enjoyed bringing that image to life.
The dark Yoda makes sense to Kane, who adds, “As we get more into Force mythology, there’s got to be an evil version of everything.”

Yoda's Visions: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

            Veröffentlicht am 11.12.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni discusses his personal additions to the Yoda arc.

While the stories from Star Wars: The Clone Wars came from George Lucas,
Dave Filoni and his team developed them and brought them to life.

In the Yoda arc of The Lost Missions, Filoni added Ahsoka Tano to the Jedi Master’s dark vision of Order 66.
“I thought, in order for this scene to have value, it has to be someone that we know and we actually care about.
You get that on some level…Yoda regrets the way that he treated her.”

Filoni says that he added things knowing what Lucas would like, an instinct gained through years of working closely.
He also added more visions of what’s to come, and sound from the original Star Wars.
Lucas didn’t know those were being included, but Filoni is confident he’d be happy.
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."

Sifo-Dyas and the Sith: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

              Veröffentlicht am 12.12.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni talks about finally exploring the mystery of Sifo-Dyas and new insights into the Sith.

Sifo-Dyas was first mentioned in Attack of the Clones as the Jedi who ordered the clone army.
His story remained untold, however, until The Lost Missions.
Did George Lucas know his backstory while making Episode II? “I don’t know,” Filoni says.
“As a storyteller myself, I can tell you that you evolve the story so much as you create other parts of the story.
I think that it was something that he wanted to lock down more before he left.”

Filoni also notes that this arc reveals that Dooku and Maul must have been Sidious’ apprentice at the same time – bending the Rule of Two,
in a sense. In order to put the war in motion, Dooku had to have been working for Sidious during the time of The Phantom Menace,
while Maul was active. Filoni says he called the Story Group’s Leland Chee and Pablo Hidalgo,
and may have called Sam Witwer (the voice of Darth Maul) – but doesn’t have enough time for super-fan Witwer’s obscure factoids.

The Force Planet: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

                Veröffentlicht am 15.12.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni talks about Yoda's trip to the mysterious Force planet.

The Force Planet is featured in the four-part Yoda arc from The Lost Missions.
It's the source of the midi-chlorians and all life, conceived by George Lucas and brought to the screen by supervising director Dave Filoni.
"I don't see this as like, 'This is this one place.'" says Filoni.

"You can't think black and white when you're dealing with the Force or balance.
So, I think these places exist in the universe at different times and they manifest.
And then life emanates from them, and then you can go there, and [at other times] they're just dead, empty spaces, as well."
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."

The Mystery of Dagobah: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

                  Veröffentlicht am 23.12.2014
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni, Tom Kane (Yoda), and Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker) discuss Yoda's trip to Dagobah in "Voices."

First seen in The Empire Strikes Back, Dagobah is a swamp planet that became Yoda's home after the decimation of the Jedi.
It was on Dagobah that he hid from the Empire, waiting to train Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force.
But it was not until the Lost Missions episode, "Voices," that audiences would finally learn more about the bog world, and Yoda's association with it.

In "Voices," Yoda journeys to Dagobah on the guidance of Qui-Gon Jinn's disembodied voice.
He goes, however, with R2-D2 -- a connection with the original trilogy not lost on the show's creators.
"When Luke says, 'There's something familiar about this place' [in The Empire Strikes Back], Artoo's like, 'Yeah, absolutely,'" Filoni jokes.
Kane notes the significance for viewers: "There were secrets being kept," he says. "It just added a whole other layer."

In recreating Dagobah for animation, the Clone Wars team tried to stay true to the films.
They referenced the original blueprint documents of the set, and maintained accuracy right down to the angle of tree roots.
But what of Yoda's visions and experience on Dagobah? What's real and what isn't?
In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke seems to walk into a man-made structure, but it could've been part of his own vision.

"I tried to keep everything as vague in this arc to maintain that mystery," Filoni remarks.
Kane points out that Yoda walks down steps during his Dagobah trial, signifying that something had to have been built there.
"Unless he's seeing that in his mind, Tom," Filoni says. "I really can't say."
"Ich kann freilich nicht sagen, ob es besser wird, wenn es anders wird, aber soviel kann ich sagen: Es muß anders werden, wenn es gut werden soll."

Rebels: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions Q&A

                    Veröffentlicht am 02.01.2015
In this segment of a special Q&A on Star Wars: The Clone Wars - The Lost Missions,
supervising director Dave Filoni discusses the influence The Clone Wars has had on the creation of Star Wars Rebels.

One fan asks Dave Filoni, "Are you going to be able to draw from what you've developed in The Clone Wars and pull some of those elements into the new series?"

"We couldn't do Rebels without having done Clone Wars," Filoni says. "It'd be impossible."
Though many fans think Rebels has a similar look as The Clone Wars,
Filoni believes the new series has a distinct style that has made him very proud of what his team has accomplished.

Filoni also discusses the increase in acclaim for The Clone Wars after its cancellation.
This praise has kept the team motivated to build on The Clone Wars legacy while transitioning into Rebels.

and Battlefront 2 may release heroes like Ahsoka Tano with new skins, maps and more.

solange wir nicht die Geduld aufbringen,
                            einander zuzuhören...
